Key highlights
- 5+ years of hands-on software development experience required
- Deep, hands-on experience with federated GraphQL gateways (Federation v2) is at the heart of the role
- Strong experience building observability and optimizing systems for speed and latency
- Strong experience with cloud-based distributed systems (AWS or similar)

- Strong communication and collaboration skills for distributed team environments
Role overview
You will be part of the Platform team at LottieFiles, building and maintaining the core systems that power products — covering authentication, federated GraphQL, data orchestration, and application architecture. As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will champion developer experience across the organization, treating internal developers as customers and platform capabilities as products.
Responsibilities
- Champion developer experience and enablement across the organization by establishing the architecture patterns, runtime tooling, workflows, and documentation around the federated gateway that make it easier for teams to design schemas, develop subgraphs, and consume APIs — treating developers as customers and platform capabilities as products.
- Measure and improve developer experience continuously — gathering feedback from engineering teams, tracking adoption of platform tooling, and removing the friction points that slow teams down.
- Design, build, and maintain our federated GraphQL gateway (Federation v2) and gRPC services — resilient, compliant, and well-architected systems that ensure scalability, security, and high availability across the platform.
- Develop and maintain the platform's authentication service, including OAuth and SAML single sign-on integrations for enterprise customers and secure access to our APIs.
- Build observability into our GraphQL gateway and platform APIs — metrics, distributed tracing, and structured logging — and use it to profile and optimize running systems for speed, latency, and resource efficiency.
- Collaborate with product, engineering, and DevOps teams — and with external vendors — to align platform initiatives with business and technical goals.
- Take ownership of issues and incidents, seeing them through to resolution and improving long-term system reliability.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to peers, sharing knowledge and best practices to elevate team expertise.
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in software development within modern engineering environments, building and operating production services at scale.
- Deep understanding of JavaScript and TypeScript, with strong experience in Node.js and service-to-service APIs such as gRPC.
- Strong experience building developer tooling and improving developer experience across an engineering organization — schema workflows, code generation, documentation, and golden paths — with a product mindset toward the developers who use them.
- Deep, hands-on experience building and operating federated GraphQL gateways using Federation v2, including subgraph design, schema composition, and governance — this is at the heart of the role.
- Strong experience building observability into GraphQL and other APIs (operation-level tracing, metrics, structured logging), and a proven track record of profiling and optimizing running systems for speed and latency — you enjoy this kind of work.
- Good understanding of authentication systems and protocols such as OAuth 2.0, OIDC, and SAML, including session management and token lifecycle.
- Strong experience designing and operating cloud-based distributed systems (AWS or similar) with a systems-thinking mindset — reasoning about failure modes, tradeoffs, and how systems behave at scale.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills — you enjoy solving problems as part of a distributed team and can drive designs, reviews, and decisions to a conclusion.
Nice to have
- Experience with React or similar frontend frameworks, or with a systems programming language, is a plus.
- Experience in compliance-driven environments such as SOC 2 is a plus.
- Kubernetes experience is a plus.
- Experience with AI-native systems — LLM-powered tooling, agent sandboxing, model serving, or usage-based billing — is a plus.
