insightsoftware
Skill Required
Key highlights
- 3 to 4 years of professional software engineering experience required
- Full-stack focus with Vue 3 (frontend) and Spring Boot (backend)
- Mandatory use and experimentation with AI coding tools in the workflow
- Enterprise financial performance management domain (JustPerform)
Role overview
insightsoftware is a global provider of reporting, analytics, and performance management solutions empowering leaders from over 32,000 organizations. We are looking for a Software Engineer I to join the JustPerform product team, an enterprise software product in the financial performance management space supporting workflows in financial planning, analysis, and close. This role involves working across the full stack, building features on a Vue 3 frontend and a Spring Boot backend for customers in complex financial environments. It is intended for someone past the learning curve who is ready to take on meaningful feature work independently, contributing across both frontend and backend while bringing curiosity about modern tools, including AI.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain full-stack features across the Vue 3 frontend and Spring Boot backend, working from well-defined requirements through to production.
- Write clean, well-structured code with appropriate test coverage, and participate actively in code reviews on both sides of the stack.
- Collaborate with product managers and designers to understand requirements, ask the right questions, and flag technical constraints early.
- Debug and resolve issues across the stack, taking ownership of a problem until it is properly resolved rather than passing it along.
- Contribute to technical discussions, design sessions, and sprint planning with a constructive point of view.
- Build UI components and features using Vue 3 with the Composition API, with attention to performance, reusability, and maintainability.
- Manage application state using Pinia, keeping data flows predictable and easy to reason about.
- Integrate frontend components cleanly with backend APIs, handling async data flows, loading states, and error scenarios correctly.
- Write TypeScript across the frontend codebase, maintaining type safety and consistency with established patterns.
- Write component-level tests using Vitest, and contribute to frontend quality standards across the team.
- Design and implement REST APIs using Spring Boot, following established patterns for structure, validation, and error handling.
- Work with relational databases: write efficient queries, understand indexing basics, and contribute to schema changes with appropriate migrations.
- Write unit and integration tests using JUnit and standard Spring testing utilities, maintaining meaningful coverage on the code you ship.
- Participate in backend code reviews and contribute to improving the quality and consistency of backend code over time.
- Learn and apply the team's existing patterns for authentication, authorization, and service-layer design as you contribute to new features.
- Use AI coding tools (such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude) as a regular part of your development workflow to write, review, and improve code more efficiently.
- Bring a thoughtful approach to AI-assisted development: know when suggestions are good, when they need revision, and when to discard them entirely.
- Experiment with AI tooling beyond basic code completion, such as using agents or custom skills to automate repetitive development tasks, generate test scaffolding, or accelerate documentation.
- Share what you learn about effective AI tooling with your team, contributing to a culture where the team improves its use of these tools over time.
Requirements
- 3 to 4 years of professional software engineering experience in a full-stack or backend-leaning role.
- Solid hands-on experience with Vue 3 using the Composition API; you have built real features with it, not just followed tutorials.
- Hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot, building and maintaining REST APIs in a production environment.
- Working knowledge of relational databases: writing queries, understanding joins and indexes, and contributing to schema design.
- Familiarity with TypeScript in a frontend codebase; comfortable with types, interfaces, and generics at a working level.
- Experience writing tests across the stack: Vitest for Vue 3 component and unit testing on the frontend, JUnit for unit and integration testing on the backend.
- Experience with Pinia for state management in Vue 3 applications.
- Familiarity with Git workflows in a team environment: branching, pull requests, code review, and resolving conflicts.
- Awareness and hands-on experimentation with AI coding tools; you have used them in your own workflow and formed a view on where they help.
- Clear communication: able to ask good questions, articulate what you are working on, and flag blockers early rather than late.
Nice to have
- Experience working on enterprise software, particularly in finance, ERP, or performance management domains.
- Exposure to custom AI agents or workflow automation tools beyond basic code completion.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and containerised environments (Docker, GitHub Actions).
- Knowledge of Spring Security or similar frameworks for authentication and authorization.
- Experience with agile delivery practices including sprint planning, estimation, and retrospectives.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
Additional details
- The right person for this role is comfortable on both sides of the stack and does not wait to be told exactly what to do; they take ownership of work, figure out what they need to know, and see it through.
- The ideal candidate is not the loudest in the room but contributes meaningfully in design discussions and code reviews, and their absence is noticed by teammates.
- The ideal candidate is genuinely curious about AI tooling, has experimented beyond the basics, and can speak concretely about where AI made them faster or led them astray.
- The role suits those who care about code quality, take pride in shipping well-functioning products, and are seeking a complex domain that keeps them learning.
- All personal information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.
- Background checks are required for employment with insightsoftware, where permitted by country, state/province.
- insightsoftware is committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ethnicity, ancestry, religion, national origin, gender, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital or parental status, disability, veteran status, or other protected class.
