Role overview
Yassir, the leading Super App in the Maghreb region, is expanding its services across 45 cities in Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia and recently into France, Canada, and Sub‑Saharan Africa. Backed by roughly $200 M in venture funding, the company is adding financial services to its on‑demand ride‑hailing and delivery platform and is seeking a Backend Staff Engineer to set technical standards, lead engineering squads, and mentor talent.
Responsibilities
- Drive the technical standards for the Backend across the consumer domain.
- Lead Backend engineers with tech roadmaps, architecture decisions, and feature development and release cycles.
- Mentor junior developers and provide technical leadership.
- Conduct technical interviews and help bring great talent on board.
- Design, build and maintain features for the domain applications.
- Provide technical leadership and manage dependencies.
- Conduct design and code reviews.
- Help domain team members with technical blockers, supporting them and helping them grow.
- Continuously discover, evaluate, and implement new technologies to maximize efficiency.
- Participate in architecture and design discussions.
- Participate strongly in building the technical roadmap.
- Help improve engineering standards, tooling, and processes.
- Own assigned projects, performing feasibility studies to validate capability and functionality.
- Draft and submit intellectual property.
- Research and assess current technologies.
- Develop and execute complex, multi‑tier distributed software search applications.
- Create technical and domain expertise and apply it to products and problems.
- Assess and write code to improve or extend applications.
- Manage and assist current software applications.
Requirements
- At least 10 years of experience in backend engineering with Node.js.
- Strong foundation in programming fundamentals.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Enjoy solving problems and helping others meet their goals.
- Solid understanding of X.
- Substantial experience with Git in a team environment.
- Experience writing testable code and unit tests.
- Deep knowledge of React and Node.js, with experience developing products using them.
- Experience using modern JavaScript and tooling in a full‑stack setting.
- Extensive experience with A/B experiments and a data‑driven attitude toward product development.
- Experience providing technical leadership and mentoring others.
Nice to have
- Experience in a fast‑growing startup in the on‑demand services space is a plus.
