Data Scientist

Purpose of the Job: The Enterprise Data Science team is a multi-disciplinary team of data experts that work together to convert vast amounts of business and consumer data into actionable insights, improved business decisions, and positive customer interactions. The team’s analytics are used to build, retain and strengthen our relationship with individual clients, plan sponsors and distribution partners, and to improve our business processes across the enterprise. This role is responsible for delivering innovative customer-focused data science capabilities to support Voya’s Health and Wealth businesses in engaging our customers through personalized experiences. The ideal candidate is skilled at understanding business needs and selecting and applying appropriate data science techniques to large data sets to deliver insights, discover patterns and build models for a variety of business use cases. Key Responsibilities: Expand the impact of data science throughout the firm by designing, developing, delivering and supporting new data science capabilities Deliver insights and solutions to data science problems by building predictive models and advanced analytics using a combination of structured and unstructured data sources and applying a variety of data science techniques Assist in the evaluation of data science platforms, technologies, frameworks, and data sources Share effective communications and presentations to business partners and technical audiences, utilizing data visualizations to present technical results Understand business needs to ensure that the data and analysis are meaningful and accurate Take full ownership of assignments and responsibility for meeting deadlines Successfully work on open-ended tasks, anticipating and identifying problems and developing alternative solutions, seeking guidance when necessary Assist in the evaluation of data science platforms, technologies, frameworks, and data sources Knowledge and Experience: Advanced degree (Masters or Ph.D.) in data science or another quantitative discipline such as statistics, computer science, applied mathematics, or engineering, or equivalent experience 3+ years of experience developing and delivering data science solutions Proficient in core data science tools and technologies, including: Selecting and applying data science/machine learning/artificial intelligence algorithms and methods (e.g., decision trees, regression, neural networks, clustering, and time series analyses) Data access and manipulation (SQL, Python scripting) Data visualization: Tableau (preferred) Cloud-based data science solutions: Azure, Snowflake, and DataBricks (preferred) Prior work experience in financial services (especially Retirement, Employee Benefits, Investment Management) Strong communication, documentation skills & ability to interact with client stakeholders Solid business acumen with the ability to quickly learn about Voya's core businesses Show more
