  • In-office 5 days/week (or 3 days transitioning to 5 in Bangalore)
  • Full medical coverage and flexible PTO
  • Pay-on-performance philosophy
  • Work on critical identity and authentication systems
  • Collaborative, in-person team culture

Role overview

Postman is the world’s leading API platform, used by over 45 million developers and 500,000 organizations, including 98% of the Fortune 500. The Identity and Access Management team builds a secure, reliable, and seamless identity platform for all Postman users, owning systems behind authentication, session management, access control, service accounts, invites, and other foundational identity capabilities. This role involves designing, building, and evolving backend systems for Postman’s identity and authentication platform, with a focus on reliability, scalability, and collaboration across teams.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and evolve backend systems that power Postman’s identity and authentication platform.
  • Own projects end to end: clarify requirements, drive technical design, implement solutions, manage rollout, and support production.
  • Work closely with Product, Design, and Engineering teams to scope, build, test, and launch new features and platform improvements.
  • Improve system reliability, scalability, observability, and operational readiness for services owned by the team.
  • Make sound technical trade-offs between speed, quality, and long-term maintainability in a fast-moving environment.
  • Lead execution for projects involving 2–3 engineers when needed, including task breakdown, technical guidance, and code reviews.
  • Participate in debugging, incident response, root cause analysis, and long-term production fixes.
  • Raise engineering quality by improving test coverage, reviewing designs and code, and advocating for strong software engineering practices.
  • Partner with your manager on roadmap, prioritization, and SLAs for the services you own.
  • Help create a team culture of ownership, reliability, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience building complex backend or distributed systems at scale.
  • Experience designing and operating production systems with strong reliability requirements.
  • Comfortable owning ambiguous problems and driving them from idea to production with minimal supervision.
  • Experience leading or guiding small groups of engineers on execution.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals in areas like distributed systems, networking, data modeling, and system design.
  • Write code that is testable, maintainable, and easy to understand.
  • Comfortable making architectural and implementation trade-offs, and can explain the reasoning clearly.
  • Collaborate well with cross-functional stakeholders and are comfortable respectfully challenging PMs, EMs, and peers when needed.
  • Care about production quality, observability, and operational excellence, not just feature delivery.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience with backend technologies such as Node.js, Java, Python, Go, or Ruby
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems and cloud infrastructure
  • Experience building or operating microservices at scale
  • Experience with databases, caching, queues, and event-driven systems
  • Experience with testing, monitoring, and incident response
  • Familiarity with authentication, authorization, identity, RBAC, access control, or security-sensitive systems is a plus, but not required

Benefits

  • Full medical coverage
  • Flexible PTO
  • Wellness reimbursement
  • Monthly lunch stipend
  • Wellness programs for physical and mental health
  • Frequent and fascinating team-building events
  • Donation-matching program
  • Flexible schedule working with a fun, collaborative team
  • Pay-on-performance philosophy
