Role overview
The role involves owning and redesigning Databricks' core platforms — including Workspaces, Notebooks, SQL, and serving infrastructure — to achieve massive scalability, reliability, and a streamlined developer experience, while fostering engineering excellence and mentoring junior talent.
Responsibilities
- Own and execute on platform dimensions: scalability, platformization, and reliability
- Design and platformize serving infrastructure to support diverse use cases and drive cross‑org consensus
- Re‑architect existing platforms to handle 10×–100× scale increase
- Revolutionize developer onboarding to reduce time from weeks to hours
- Develop impactful features that enhance product functionality and user experience
- Cultivate an engineering culture focused on quality, productivity, and high standards
- Mentor junior team members and act as a leadership role model
Requirements
- 12+ years of production‑level experience in Python, Java, Scala, C++, or similar language
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field
- Proven experience developing large‑scale distributed systems from scratch
- Experience building SaaS platforms or working with Service‑Oriented Architectures
