Role overview
The Manager, Field Engineering (Data & AI) will lead a team of Solutions Architects focused on large and strategic customers in India, driving the expansion of the pre‑sales function and scaling the Field Engineering organization. The role involves building and mentoring the team, positioning business‑value solutions, coaching sales and pre‑sales members, and collaborating with C‑suite stakeholders to promote Databricks’ brand and increase ROI of pre‑sales involvement.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of Solutions Architects focusing on large and strategic customers in India.
- Build and lead a technical pre‑sales team to support India expansion.
- Guide and enhance the effectiveness of the pre‑sales team.
- Position and articulate business‑value‑focused solutions to customers and prospects.
- Coach and mentor new sales and pre‑sales team members to collaborate through sales cycle stages.
- Build relationships with key stakeholders in large corporations.
- Manage hiring and build the Pre‑Sales team of Solutions Architects in the Data & AI domain.
- Rapidly scale the designated Field Engineering segment organization while maintaining high calibre.
- Foster a collaborative culture within a rapid‑growth team, promoting Databricks’ customer‑obsessed, teamwork and diverse values.
- Support increasing the ROI of SA involvement in sales cycles by 2‑3× over 18 months.
- Promote a solution‑ and value‑based selling field‑engineering organization.
- Coach and mentor the Solutions Architect team to understand customer business needs and identify revenue potential.
- Interface with leadership and C‑suite stakeholders at strategic accounts to position Databricks and build trust.
- Build Databricks’ brand in India in partnership with Marketing and Sales teams.
- Contribute field engineering insights to the organization’s planning and strategy roadmap.
Requirements
- 6+ years experience in a pre‑sales, consulting, or customer‑facing managerial role developing, managing, and building a team of successful Big Data, Cloud, or SaaS professionals.
- Experience working with strategic Banking, Financial Services, or Digital Enterprise accounts generating more than $1 M ARR.
- 6+ years experience in Big Data Architecture, including Data Engineering, Data Warehouse, Machine Learning, or Data Science components.
- Proven ability to scale and mentor field and technical teams, managing both in‑person and remote working models.
- Knowledgeable and passionate about data‑driven decisions, AI, and Cloud software models.
- Knowledgeable in the Apache Spark™ / Databricks ecosystem.
