The role is for a founding Engineering Manager to lead the new Core Frontier team in Bengaluru, bridging complex internal identity features (e.g., Native to Web, Cross-App Access, Custom Token Exchange) with a seamless customer experience. This leader will hire and onboard a high-caliber team, establish operational rhythms, and maintain hands-on technical involvement while ensuring high standards for security, reliability, and product polish.
Responsibilities
- Hire and bootstrap the Core Frontier team in Bengaluru, setting the technical bar and engineering culture for the growing regional presence while fostering deep collaboration with global teams in Europe and North America.
- Work in a highly collaborative and cross-functional environment with engineers, managers, and partners across Product, Security, Design, Architecture, and QA to deliver customer-delighting features.
- Adapt and evolve engineering processes and best practices to ensure the team remains agile, healthy, and high-performing.
- Work closely with stakeholders to prioritize the roadmap, providing necessary context and technical clarity to unblock the team.
- Run people and team management activities such as coaching, 1:1s, performance reviews, and ceremonies.
- Be responsible for the team’s health and delivery, as well as the growth and performance of direct reports.
- Maintain a hands-on approach by participating in code reviews, architectural discussions, and contributing to the codebase outside of the critical path.
Requirements
- Total of 10+ years of experience, including 3+ years of engineering management experience, preceded by a strong foundation as an individual contributor (typically 5+ years).
- Experience leading teams that build highly reliable, secure, and scalable distributed systems.
- A passion for coaching engineers at various career stages and a track record of fostering technical growth.
- The ability to communicate effectively and build trust across different time zones and functions (both technical and non-technical).
- A systematic approach to tackling technical and organizational challenges with a strong sense of ownership.
- The ability and desire to remain technically capable, directly contributing to the development process and architectural strategy outside of the critical path.
Nice to have
- Experience in the Identity and Access Management (IAM) domain.
- Experience with Node.js and AWS stack.
- Experience designing and maintaining public-facing, secure APIs.
