Role overview
The Senior Data Scientist will play a key role and be responsible for hands on development of differentiated business and product capabilities for Switchfly through the application of data science & machine learning (ML), and to support, and enable, the entire organization to adopt and apply Data Science/ML at a large scale to drive business results. This role will be responsible for driving analytic innovation and application of ML solutions to help the business better serve clients, deepen client relationships, improve outcomes, attract new clients, and continuously improve Switchfly’s products and services. Responsibilities
- Drive creative and innovative data science / machine learning / AI applications and results.
- Keeps abreast of industry, market and company trends, and partners with business leaders to champion the adoption of new data, analytic approaches, techniques and capabilities.
- Extract/transform data for exploratory analysis, feature engineering, modeling, and visualization.
- Design, build and iterate on models.
- Build, monitor, and maintain recommendation systems.
- Write efficient code, deploy on cloud, and A/B test models/algorithms.
- Data validation and data quality checks before modeling
- Model monitoring and drift detection post deployment
- Present and demonstrate prototypes and concepts to customers/clients & leadership.
- Builds deep expertise in Switchfly’s data and external data.
- Identifies data and analytic tool gaps by working with other teams, business partners, and recommends corrective action.
- Prioritizes developing talent, consulting with business leaders across the organization, and inform business strategy decisions which would evolve the practice area.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional experience as a data scientist - building, evaluating, deploying and monitoring machine learning (including deep learning) models required.
- Relevant technical degree (preferably advanced, in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, etc.).
- Advanced competency in Python and using opensource frameworks e.g. Scikit learn, TensorFlow, Keras, Pytorch, etc.
- Strong SQL and ETL experience.
- Rapid prototyping skills, highly proficient in cloud-based, open-source computing-based technology platforms and scripting languages.
- Excellent problem-solving skills; demonstrated success structuring the quantitative and qualitative analysis of complex problems, resourceful at gathering data, and proficient at developing actionable plans that address client’s core needs
- Past success identifying emerging technologies and trends and developing innovative solutions that added significant value to a company and customers
- Move fast with frontier LLMs for POCs and rapid iteration — reach for frontier models like Claude / GPT APIs to validate ideas in days, not quarters, and embrace the velocity advantage they offer over building from scratch.
- Pragmatic about scaling — once a capability proves out, evaluate cost, performance, and security tradeoffs of moving to in-house deployments using Bedrock, Ollama, LangChain, and fine-tuned open-source models where the economics or control warrant it.
- Willingness to align hours as needed to partner with North American teammates in PST/MST.
- Ability to Think Big about ways to solve problems with innovative solutions.
- Thrive working in a fast-paced environment.

- Experience with large enterprise B2B and B2C model applications a plus.
- Previous experience in a startup environment.
