Role overview
Karat is the world's largest interviewing company, providing technical leaders at companies like PayPal, Atlassian, and Citi with a system for hiring top engineers through expert-led interviews, analytics, and a robust performance dataset. The Interview Content team designs, writes, tests, and monitors the technical interview questions and scoring rubrics used in every Karat interview across various technical domains. As a Content Development Engineer, you will design and build technical interview questions to assess software engineering candidates, including coding exercises and debugging challenges. This is not a traditional software engineering role focused on production systems; instead, you will write code to construct, test, and correct problems and reference solutions using AI-assisted tools and peer review.
Responsibilities
- Design and build technical interview questions, including coding exercises, debugging challenges, knowledge assessments, and real-world engineering scenarios.
- Write and test interview content across multiple programming languages, checking that solutions are correct and consistent.
- Use AI-assisted development tools to speed up content creation, while applying engineering judgment to keep it accurate.
- Conduct peer reviews to make sure content meets Karat's technical and quality standards.
- Update content based on candidate performance data, interviewer feedback, and Content Corrections requests.
- Partner with Content Architecture to improve content development processes and assessment quality.
- Help improve development standards, templates, and documentation for the Content team.
Requirements
- 2+ years of professional software engineering experience (post-academic, post-internship), working in at least one modern programming language
- Strong software engineering fundamentals: debugging, testing, reviewing code, and giving constructive technical feedback
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools (ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, Gemini Code Assist, or similar)
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
- Schedule that overlaps with U.S. business hours
- Residing in Bengaluru (formerly known as Bangalore)
- Submissions must be 100% in English
Nice to have
- Experience working remotely on global, distributed teams, with availability during U.S. hours preferred

- This is not a traditional software engineering role; you won't be building or maintaining production systems.
- The team operates 100% remotely, but hiring is currently limited to Bengaluru; applications from other cities in India will not be considered at this time.
