Role overview
VirtusLab is a leading European software consulting and engineering company dedicated to crafting clean code and practical solutions. This role is for a Software Engineer with Data & Quality who will take ownership of the Data Quality area for a key data processing platform, focusing on identifying, analyzing, and eliminating data quality issues while building solutions to reduce their recurrence. The position offers a high degree of autonomy, allowing the engineer to propose improvements and shape the overall approach to Data Quality. The work exists at the intersection of data engineering, analytics, and automation, focusing on offline approaches to ensure production environment performance is not affected.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the Data Quality area and have a real impact on the quality of data delivered to clients
- Identify, analyse, and eliminate data quality issues
- Build solutions to reduce the recurrence of data quality issues
- Propose your own improvements and shape the overall approach to Data Quality
- Reduce the existing backlog of data quality issues
- Develop a more proactive approach to detecting and preventing problems
- Find cohorts in BigQuery, work out why the data is wrong, and fix it at scale
- Build their own remediation tooling and checks
- Take a vague ticket, scope it themselves, deliver, and propose what's next

- Data quality/observability mindset (experience building monitors, data tests, or anomaly detection; understanding the difference between firefighting and building prevention)
- Ownership and autonomy
- Fluent English
- Comfortable with legacy and ambiguity (experience with live, latency-sensitive systems where fixes run offline and validation is statistical)
