Role overview
HPS Investment Partners, a part of BlackRock, is seeking an Executive Director to lead and expand the firm's India-based Data & Analytics organization based in Mumbai. This individual will be responsible for building, scaling, and managing a high-performing team while driving the firm's global data strategy, architecture, engineering, and reporting capabilities, and enabling the firm's AI and advanced analytics capabilities by building AI-ready data foundations and supporting generative AI use cases. The IT Data Analytics team is responsible for sourcing, processing, and distributing data internally and externally, covering data needs across all aspects of investment analysis, portfolio management, back-office processing, investor reporting, and regulatory filings.
Responsibilities
- Build, manage, and grow the India Data & Analytics team, establishing Mumbai as a core global delivery hub.
- Drive recruiting, onboarding, mentoring, performance management, and leadership development.
- Develop organizational structure, operating model, and succession planning for India-based teams.
- Oversee end-to-end delivery of enterprise-grade data applications, including requirements, analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and ongoing support.
- Deliver analytics and reporting solutions supporting Senior Management, Investor Relations, Business Development, Front Office PMs/Analysts/Traders, Risk, Operations, and Finance.
- Integrate third-party platforms and vendor systems into PFS's internal data architecture.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with external vendors, ensuring effective collaboration, service quality, and alignment with data strategy.
- Own the evolution of PFS's global data architecture, ensuring scalability, resiliency, and alignment with business growth.
- Lead the design and implementation of modern data platforms, data pipelines, governance frameworks, metadata, lineage, observability, and quality controls.
- Drive architectural modernization across Snowflake, Azure, BI platforms, and other data ecosystems.
- Represent the India Data & Analytics organization in cross-functional planning forums.
- Partner with front-to-back business teams — including Portfolio Management, Risk, Operations, Finance, Legal, Compliance, IR, and Technology leadership — to define and execute data needs.
- Establish and refine offshore–onshore workflows ensuring quality, predictability, and efficiency.
- Drive continuous improvement through automation, best practices, and ongoing process optimization.
- Support adoption of generative AI for data exploration, analytics, and reporting workflows (e.g., natural language querying, automated insights, narrative reporting).
- Establish governance, controls, and best practices for AI usage, including model inputs, data quality, explainability, lineage, and regulatory considerations.
- Collaborate with Technology leadership on evaluation and integration of AI platforms, cloud-native AI services, and vendor solutions.
- Ensure AI initiatives align with PFS's data security, privacy, and compliance standards.
Requirements
- 12+ years of experience in financial services technology, with significant leadership responsibilities.
- Deep expertise in data architecture, data engineering, and enterprise data warehousing.
- Strong expertise in Snowflake, Azure Synapse, Databricks, or similar cloud data platforms.
- Outstanding SQL and data modeling skills; strong understanding of data quality, metadata, lineage, and distributed systems.
- Proven ability to build and scale offshore/onshore hybrid teams.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- High degree of professionalism, integrity, and business ethics.
- Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field.
Nice to have
- Additional experience with Coalesce/DBT, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory or related technologies.
- Experience with Sigma, Microsoft BI ecosystem (Power BI, SSRS, Power Apps) or similar technologies.
- Familiarity with credit-related asset classes (bank loans, bonds, CLOs, credit derivatives, FX forwards).
- Prior experience managing vendor relationships and contracts is a plus.
- Degree from a Tier-I engineering institute (IIT / NIT / BITS / equivalent) preferred.

- Hybrid Work Schedule: 4/1 split (4 days in the office per week, with flexibility to work from home 1 day a week).
- This role requires working a late shift to support stakeholders across EMEA and US time zones (2 PM to 11 PM).
- Some business groups may require more time in the office due to their roles and responsibilities.
