Role overview
Alkami is the digital sales and service platform provider for U.S. banks and credit unions. Responsibilities
- Work with Product Engineering teams to deliver functional requirements and ensure features are built to specifications
- Maintain a significant hands-on contribution (~20%), including architecting and reviewing complex code, debugging critical issues, designing and evolving highly scalable APIs, and delivering robust platform services
- Lead, mentor, and develop one to two Technical Engineering Managers (TEMs) and their teams
- Lead, mentor, and inspire a diverse team of software engineers, providing advanced guidance, strategic support, and comprehensive feedback
- Build architecture design, ensure the quality of architecture and design of systems, influence product roadmap, introduce new technologies and take ownership and responsibility over new projects
- Lead and strengthen partnerships with Product, Security, Architecture, and Operations leadership
- Proactively identify and address organizational bottlenecks, strategically reduce technical debt, and drive initiatives to enhance scalability, resilience, and cost-efficiency
- Define and track KPIs (deployment frequency, MTTR, test coverage, SLA adherence); balance speed with quality, improve and maintain the team’s Say/Do ratio by managing resource allocation, workload distribution, and project priorities
- Maintain a deep understanding of software development technologies, trends, and best practices and provide technical guidance and expertise to the team
- Oversee and manage on-call incidents, including troubleshooting and resolving critical disruptions
- Drive the adoption of modern development practices, tools, and frameworks
- Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning
- Champion innovation and experimentation, encouraging team members to explore new technologies and approaches
- Collaborate with Product Management through creative brainstorming sessions and assist in writing requirements for technical debt
- Report on accomplishments, strategic goals, critical issues, and deliverable statuses to executive stakeholders
- Establish performance goals for all direct reports
- Engage in continuing education regarding management philosophies, the banking industry, and applications specific to client segments
Requirements
- Strong hands-on experience in several of the following: .NET, Java, C#, Linux Container Development, k8s, MVC, SaaS, SOA, PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server, Modern Javascript Frameworks, Entity Framework, microservices
- Demonstrated expertise in architecting and delivering highly scalable, fault-tolerant SaaS-based software with modern system architectures across multiple cloud providers (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform)
- Deep understanding and proven ability to drive operational excellence initiatives, including Dev/Ops practices, CI/CD, automated testing strategies, and observability frameworks
- Experience with observability tools like Grafana, Newrelic, Haystack, etc.
- Extensive experience with real-time and batch processing of high-volume transactions and building enterprise-grade role-based access and entitlement systems
- Exceptional proficiency in making data-driven strategic decisions and evaluating complex trade-offs
- Experience in building scalable, operationally efficient systems
- Demonstrated experience in leading and motivating cross-functional teams and building productive stakeholder relationships
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Successful in managing multiple concurrent work streams
- Extensive experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching, and managing large, geographically distributed teams of Software Engineers
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with executive leadership and technical teams
- Experience in Lean-Agile development methodologies such as Kanban or Scrum
- 18+ years of experience in software development or similar engineering fields
- 8+ years in managing engineering teams, including leading senior individual contributors and managers
- BS or MS in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent technical experience
- Must be eligible to work in the US for full-time employment (no sponsorship available)
Nice to have
- Experience in fintech, digital banking, or other highly regulated industries
- Experience working with SaaS offerings in the technology and financial industries
- Knowledge of treasury management, cash positioning, liquidity management, commercial payments (ACH, wires), and reconciliation
- Familiarity with banking data formats such as ISO 20022, BAI2, MT940, and EDI 820
