Role overview
Lead Data Scientist at Target’s Bengaluru-based Item Science team, responsible for designing, developing, deploying, and maintaining AI/ML and generative AI solutions that power catalog management, item data quality, and other retail item ecosystem capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Analyze large datasets to uncover insights that drive business process improvements or solution development.
- Contribute to the research, design, and implementation of cutting‑edge generative AI technologies to solve complex retail problems.
- Work with multimodal large language models, enhance model performance, and fine‑tune LLMs.
- Build and maintain complex software systems and tools using modular architecture and strong software engineering practices.
- Produce clean, efficient code based on specifications.
- Coordinate analysis, troubleshooting, and resolution of issues in models and software.
- Develop scalable AI/ML capabilities for catalog management, item data quality, attribute enrichment, taxonomy prediction, and derived attributes.
- Develop, test, and productionise solutions across GenAI, LLMs, computer vision, classical ML, deep learning, and agentic AI workflows.
- Collaborate closely with applied data scientists, data analysts, business partners, AI/ML engineers and peer teams.
- Lead by example a group of Data Scientists.
