We are seeking an experienced Commercial Counsel to join our Legal Team in India to support complex commercial transactions, including SaaS, licensing, and strategic partnerships. In this role, you will help navigate legal and regulatory frameworks in the evolving field of AI, providing pragmatic advice to enable growth across India and the broader APAC region while collaborating with global colleagues.
Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, with a primary focus on GTM/Sales transactions in India, including enterprise customer contracts.
- Partner with sales, business development, and operations teams to design and implement strategies that support high-growth go-to-market initiatives.
- Monitor and interpret evolving region specific legal and regulatory developments, including data protection, technology, and AI-related frameworks, and apply this knowledge to contract drafting and risk assessment.
- Develop, maintain, and localize contract templates, playbooks, and policies to reflect regional requirements and industry best practices.
- Provide clear, pragmatic, and commercially focused legal advice to cross-functional teams, tailoring advice to enable responsible growth and innovation.
- Contribute to scaling the Legal Team’s commercial function, fostering a collaborative, solutions-oriented team culture.
Requirements
- Law degree and qualification to practice law in India.
- 7+ years of relevant post-qualification legal experience.
- Proven track record drafting and negotiating complex commercial and technology agreements.
- Strong knowledge of enterprise software licensing, SaaS, data protection, and intellectual property.
- Experience advising on privacy, cybersecurity, and cross-border data transfer issues.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
- Comfort in fast-paced environments with shifting priorities and tight deadlines.
- Curious about the future of AI and emerging technologies, have a strong sense of ownership with enthusiasm for applying your legal expertise to cutting-edge products.
- Have worked for a US Based or Global multinational out of India but have direct experience working with customers both in and outside the region.
- Experienced in navigating fast-paced, high-growth environments, with the ability to manage ambiguity and make informed, timely decisions.
- Comfortable working independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional and global colleagues.
- Proactive, business-minded, and committed to delivering practical solutions that support both compliance and commercial success.
