Role overview
Okta is building the trusted, neutral infrastructure that secures AI and identity for organizations worldwide. This senior engineering leadership role focuses on building and leading a team of backend Java engineers to develop mission‑critical identity and security products, driving platform features for authentication and authorisation on the Okta Secure Identity Platform.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate cross‑functionally and across teams, with responsibility for the product, team health, and customer satisfaction.
- Contribute to defining the strategic direction (product & technical) and roadmap for the team.
- Ensure technical leadership is being provided to the engineers on the team in terms of scalable and maintainable systems.
- Ensure a high‑quality bar through testing and testing automation.
- Participate in and enable key team processes to organize & deliver key projects with high business impact.
- Build a team for the long term, including creating a collaborative working environment, recruitment, and developing existing talent.
- Drive career management discussions, including setting expectations and removing blockers, and feedback and coaching opportunities.
Requirements
- 3+ years managing engineering teams, balancing new feature/product development and maintaining existing features.
- Experience in stakeholder management, including alignment, prioritisation, communication, and receiving and incorporating feedback.
- Demonstrated ability to build teams from ground‑up, managing performance, mentoring and coaching teams.
- Demonstrated focus on delivering outcomes, balancing constraints and tight deadlines.
- 7‑10 years of prior software development experience with Java or other backend technologies.
- Experience and strong opinions on SDLC with testing automation & release orchestration using gating feature flags & configuration management, and CI/CD platforms.
- Demonstrable knowledge of secure web development fundamentals, fault‑tolerant systems, and knowledge of cloud technologies.
