Role overview
Castor is modernizing the backbone of clinical research by building an operating system for the next era of research, featuring a modular cloud platform with Electronic Data Capture (EDC), eConsent, and eCOA, powered by Castor Catalyst AI automation. As the Manager, QA and Release, your primary objective is to transform the QA organization into an AI-first power engine, championing modern LLM workflows, agentic test generation, and predictive release models while balancing engineering speed with regulatory integrity. You will be responsible for the dual-track integrity of core software product releases and bespoke delivery QA for client-specific builds.
Responsibilities
- Pioneer the integration of generative AI tools and LLM test generation to drastically reduce regression cycles and defect triage times.
- Transform our existing QA practices by training on AI-assisted testing frameworks and modern engineering habits.
- Manage seamless go/no-go release gates across our Core platform updates and bespoke client builds to maintain high delivery predictability.
- Leverage intelligent automation to auto-generate audit-ready test documentation, traceability matrices, and QMS logs with minimal manual effort.
- Implement smart environment strategies and branching controls that allow fast core updates without breaking custom client configurations.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience or deep expertise leveraging AI/LLM tools (e.g., Copilot, Claude/OpenAI APIs, agentic test workflows) as a force multiplier in software delivery.
- A track record of leading, modernizing, and upskilling engineering/QA teams through significant process transformations.
- Strong hands-on background in UI/API test automation frameworks (e.g., Playwright, Cypress) and modern CI/CD release pipelines.
- Ability to apply AI innovation safely within compliance-heavy boundaries (such as GxP, FDA 21 CFR Part 11, or HIPAA environments).
Benefits
- Unlimited annual leave with 25-day minimum.
- Downtime weeks: Once a quarter, the whole company shifts gears with no new shipping—just a week for deep focus, learning, or catching up.
- AI-first culture: Provision of tools and training to ensure energy is spent on high-value work, not manual repetition.
- Real ownership: All Castor team members are offered options through our Employee Stock Option Plan (ESOP).
- Comprehensive wellbeing: Free access to Open Up for mental health, specialized sleep courses (for you and your family), and a budget to make your home office a place you actually want to be.
- Annual bonus: A guaranteed "Happy Holidays" bonus every December.
Additional details
- How we work: Trust over tracking; remote-first company.
- Work-life integration: Trust to own schedule and show up for team without performative presence.
- Deep work & async: Prioritize thoughtful, asynchronous communication over status update meetings.
- Radical candor: Value truth over hierarchy and direct feedback.
- Candidate Mindset: Believe AI is the core future of Quality Engineering and look to eliminate manual testing overhead through prompt architecture and autonomous tooling.
- Candidate Mindset: Energized by changing mindsets, coaching engineers through new ways of working, and driving the cultural shift toward continuous, AI-augmented automation.
- Candidate Mindset: View release bottlenecks as engineering problems to be solved with smart workflows rather than more headcount.
- Candidate Mindset: Ability to innovate boldly while establishing smart, human-in-the-loop guardrails to protect data integrity and safety standards.
- Our preference is for this role to be based in CET +2/-4.
- Unfortunately at this moment we cannot accept applications from France, Spain, Belgium and Switzerland.
- Compensation: Castor uses location based salary bands (salary + equity + benefits). Regional bands are shared before the interview is scheduled.
- Belonging at Castor: Remote setup designed to support the whole person; strongly encourage applications from women, people of color, and the LGBTQ+ community.
