Role overview
Saphetor enables anyone to find, share and use the most comprehensive human genome data through their VarSome suite of bioinformatic tools—the world's leading resource for analysis and interpretation of human genome variant data. As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will support engineering teams through the full lifecycle of systems, from designing and provisioning cloud and on-premises infrastructure to deploying, monitoring, and continuously improving applications. The role sits at the intersection of infrastructure and software delivery in a high-pressure, high-performance environment where clinical precision and rapid growth meet, with a commitment to quality balanced by speed. The company operates globally with distributed teams across multiple countries, serving academic, clinical, and industry laboratories analyzing NGS data.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain cloud and on-premises infrastructure using IaC with Terraform and configuration management with Ansible
- Work closely with software engineers to design, deploy, and manage applications running on Linux servers across GCP, OCI, and on-premises environments
- Design, implement, and manage secure and scalable network architectures, including VPCs, subnets, firewall rules, and load balancing in cloud environments
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Workflows or Cloud Build for seamless application delivery
- Manage code repositories and collaboration through GitHub
- Proactively troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement remediation fixes to ensure business continuity with minimum downtime
- Design, implement, and manage scalable logging, monitoring, and alerting systems
- Utilize Python and Bash scripting to automate operational tasks and improve efficiency
- Configure and manage API ecosystem using APISIX Gateway
- Provide on-call support according to scheduled rotation
- Contribute to project planning, including task estimation and creation of comprehensive technical documentation
- Continuously investigate and suggest improvements to enhance system performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness
- Collaborate with peers and architects to ensure compliance with company standards and security best practices
Requirements
- University degree in Computer Science or a related field
- 6+ years of work experience as a DevOps Engineer or in a similar role
- Minimum of 4 years working with UNIX/Linux systems, configuration, troubleshooting, and scripting with Python and/or Bash
- Solid grasp of Terraform, Ansible, Docker containerization, HashiCorp stack (Vault, Packer), Git/GitHub, and networking principles (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S) and cloud networking concepts (VPCs, firewalls, load balancers)
- Hands-on experience with cloud providers, ideally GCP and OCI
- Ability to collaborate effectively with software engineers, architects, and cross-functional stakeholders in Agile environments using Jira and Confluence
- Fluency in English (written and spoken)
Nice to have
- Production experience with Kubernetes
- Previous background managing API gateways such as APISIX
- Building or maintaining CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Workflows or Cloud Build
- Familiarity with logging and monitoring tools such as Elasticsearch, Kibana, Grafana, or cloud-native solutions
- GCP or OCI certifications
