Role overview

Hitachi Energy is seeking a Software Development Product Owner for its Bangalore, India location. The role involves owning and prioritizing the product backlog, acting as the voice of the customer, and delivering high‑quality software solutions within a global organization that combines Hitachi and ABB Power Grids expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Under limited direction, perform complex assignments requiring diversified knowledge of software development and software engineering to cost‑effectively accomplish the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Proactively seek and implement initiatives to improve quality and increase customer satisfaction.
  • Own and prioritize the product backlog, ensuring clarity and alignment with the “definition of done” criteria.
  • Act as the voice of the customer within Agile teams, collaborating closely with Scrum Masters, developers, and stakeholders to deliver incremental value through iterative development cycles.
  • Work closely with R&D, engineering, product management, and customers to gather requirements, define features, and ensure successful delivery.
  • Foster a culture of reflection, retrospection, and incremental improvement within the team.
  • Design, develop, review, refactor, and maintain software with quality and performance in mind.
  • Collaborate on planning, development, and testing to meet “definition of done” criteria, proactively identifying issues and working across teams to resolve problems.
  • Identify and manage risks for schedule and quality with the team and ask for help when needed; try new things, fail fast when needed, and help others learn from mistakes.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent from a four‑year college or university in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related engineering stream.
  • Minimum 4 years experience as a Product Owner in software development, debugging, and performance tuning.
  • Strong knowledge and experience working with power system modeling and simulation, analysis and operation, optimization, and numerical analysis methodology.
  • Proficiency/experience with programming languages such as C#, C/C++, MATLAB, Java, Python, and FORTRAN.
  • Ability to effectively present information to and obtain information from peers, product management, project teams, sales, customers, management, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with analytical tools such as Load Flow, Contingency Analysis, State Estimation, AGC, Economic Dispatch, and Power Systems Simulators.
  • Solid theoretical background in Numerical Analysis Methods, Optimization Techniques, and Power System Modeling and Operation.
  • Experience in model prototyping using optimization toolkits, machine learning/AI packages, or Business Intelligence tools.
  • Experience with Linux and Windows development environments.
  • Hands‑on experience with Energy Management System (EMS) applications: Generation Control, Network Analysis, Operator Training Simulator.
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment.
