Role overview
Emergent Software is hiring a fully remote Technical Product Owner (Data) to join its top-tier product delivery team, working on client-facing data engineering, analytics, and business intelligence projects. The role involves collaborating with clients, data engineers, architects, and business stakeholders to define priorities, manage backlogs, and deliver modern data solutions that drive measurable business value. Ideal candidates have strong communication skills, experience with cloud-based data platforms, and a solid grasp of data warehousing, reporting, governance, and agile delivery practices. This indefinite fully remote role focuses on applying agile methodology to deliver custom software solutions that meet client needs.
Responsibilities
- Partner with clients to establish product vision and backlog
- Partner with clients to assist them in performing the Product Owner role
- Conduct in-depth requirements gathering and analysis
- Document requirements as Features and User Stories to share with the delivery team
- Collaborate with the team and client to create a plan for delivering on project objectives and achieving business value
- Partner with technology teams to establish client technology roadmaps
- Collaborate heavily with technology experts (architects and engineers) to vet requirements for technical feasibility
- Communicate on technology topics with clients to establish trust and confidence
- Partner with delivery teams to execute on established plans
- Communicate technical and business requirements to the delivery team
- Collaborate with senior delivery team members to solve complex challenges
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of custom software development concepts and best practices in all interactions
- Ensure projects stay on target by regularly communicating status, risks, and changes as they occur
- Champion the agile software development process
- Work directly with clients to manage project delivery while encouraging and fostering an agile delivery method
- Apply agile concepts in real-world settings, adapting principles to the client’s level of agile sophistication and working to improve maturity over time
- Own backlog health and proactively communicate deviations to expected value delivery
- Act as a servant leader to the delivery team
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience as a Product Owner or Business Analyst on complex data engineering projects
- Experience delivering data engineering projects on modern cloud data platforms, plus familiarity with concepts including data warehousing, medallion architecture, Power BI, master data management, data governance, and related topics
- Experience crafting cost estimates for project components or entire projects
- Strong technical writing, verbal communication, and presentation skills
- Experience operating as the liaison between agile development teams and end users to define requirements, perform business analysis, and drive delivery
- Experience utilizing AI tools in product development, product delivery, or project management
- Solid understanding of how websites, web applications, APIs, databases, and the cloud function at a high level
- Strong technical background enabling credible leadership of development teams and accurate evaluation of complex project risks and issues
- Experience as a Scrum Master or Agile Coach
- Solid understanding of software development life cycle models, including expert knowledge of Agile principles
- Experience with agile work organization tools (Azure DevOps, Jira, Trello, Basecamp, Rally)
- Proven track record of successfully implementing custom web application projects using Agile methodologies
- Experience with traditional project management concepts including scope, schedule, budget, and risk management
- Ability to be viewed as a trusted source of truth by stakeholders through consistent, transparent, and confident communication
- Ability to own the project delivery narrative, ensuring stakeholders are informed, aligned, and reassured throughout the project lifecycle
- Ability to accommodate occasional travel to client sites for activities such as annual planning meetings

- Experience delivering projects to client expectations, especially in a consulting capacity, software as a service environment, or delivering AI-accelerated (agentic) solutions
- Industry-recognized Agile process certification (PMI-ACP, Scrum Alliance CSM or CSPO, Scrum.org PAL, SAFe, or equivalent)
- Industry-recognized Project Management certification (PMP or equivalent)
- Microsoft Azure technology certifications (AZ-900, DP-900, AI-900)
- Experience on projects utilizing Microsoft stack technologies such as .NET, SQL Server, and Azure as well as JavaScript frameworks such as React, Angular, and Vue.js
