Role overview
Emergent Software is seeking a Technical Product Owner (Data) to join their fully remote product delivery team. The role involves leading requirements gathering and delivery efforts for data engineering, analytics, and business intelligence projects, working closely with clients, data engineers, architects, and business stakeholders to deliver modern data solutions that drive measurable business value.
Responsibilities
- Partner with clients to establish product vision and backlog
- Assist clients in performing the Product Owner role
- Conduct in-depth requirements gathering and analysis
- Document requirements as Features and User Stories to share with the team
- Create a plan for delivering on project objectives and achieving business value
- Establish client technology roadmap in partnership with technology teams
- Collaborate with technology experts to vet requirements for technical feasibility
- Communicate technical and business requirements to the delivery team
- Solve complex challenges in collaboration with senior delivery team members
- Ensure projects stay on target by regularly communicating status, risks, and changes
- Champion the agile software development process
- Manage project delivery while encouraging and fostering an agile delivery method
- Apply agile concepts in real-world settings, adapting principles to the client’s level of agile sophistication
- Own backlog health and proactively communicate deviations to expected value delivery
- Act as a servant leader to the delivery team
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience as a Product Owner or Business Analyst on complex data engineering projects
- Experience delivering data engineering projects on modern cloud data platforms
- Familiarity with data warehousing, medallion architecture, Power BI, master data management, and data governance
- Experience crafting cost estimates for project components or entire projects
- Strong technical writing, verbal communication, and presentation skills
- Experience operating as a liaison between agile development teams and users
- Solid understanding of software development life cycle models and Agile principles
- Experience with agile work organization tools (Azure DevOps, Jira, Trello, Basecamp, Rally)
- Proven track record of successfully implementing custom web application projects using Agile methodologies
- Experience with scope, schedule, budget, and risk management
- Ability to be viewed as a trusted source of truth by stakeholders through consistent, transparent, and confident communication
- Occasional travel to client sites may be required
- Experience utilizing AI tools in product development, product delivery, or project management
- A solid understanding of how websites, web applications, APIs, databases, and the cloud function at a high level
- Strong technical background enabling credible leadership to development teams and accurate evaluation of complex project risks and issues
- Experience as a Scrum Master or Agile Coach

- Experience delivering projects to client expectations, especially in a consulting capacity, software as a service environment, or delivering AI-accelerated solutions
- Industry-recognized Agile process certification (PMI-ACP, Scrum Alliance CSM or CSPO, Scrum.org PAL, SAFe, or equivalent)
- Industry-recognized Project management certification (PMP or equivalent)
- Microsoft Azure technology certifications (AZ-900, DP-900, AI-900)
- Experience on projects utilizing Microsoft stack technologies such as .NET, SQL Server, and Azure, as well as JavaScript frameworks like React, Angular, and Vue.js
