  • Senior individual contributor role within the Global Payroll team based in Bangalore.
  • Key benefit: Flexible time off, wellness resources, and company-sponsored team events.

  • Notable requirement: Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, Power Query, data modelling).
  • Work model: Primarily in-office environment based in {{OFFICE_LOCATION}}.

Role overview

We are seeking a Payroll Analyst with deep expertise in Asia-Pacific and Japan (APJ) payroll operations, backed by strong general ledger (GL) knowledge, advanced Excel capabilities, and hands-on experience with AI-driven automation. The successful candidate will be the regional subject-matter expert for APJ payroll, working in a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment alongside HR, Finance, Legal, and third-party payroll vendors to ensure timely, compliant, and accurate monthly payroll delivery across a complex multi-country portfolio. This is a key senior individual contributor role within the Global Payroll team based in Bangalore, requiring curiosity, ownership, and a digital-transformation mindset — identifying process gaps, driving automation, and raising the standard of payroll excellence across the APJ region and beyond.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end monthly payroll processing across all APJ countries in scope, partnering with in-country vendors and managed service providers (MSPs) to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for APJ payroll queries from employees, HR Business Partners, and Finance — resolving issues via the ticketing system with high-quality, timely follow-up.
  • Validate and reconcile Workday data extracts (new hires, terminations, salary changes, leave, allowances, bank details) against vendor payroll inputs each cycle.
  • Manage APJ-specific payroll inputs: 13th month pay, mandatory bonuses (e.g. Australia Superannuation, Japan Shakai Hoken contributions, Singapore CPF, India PF/ESI, Vietnam SHUI), statutory leave accruals, and equity-related inputs (RSU, ESPP).
  • Coordinate and review off-cycle and ad hoc payments across APJ jurisdictions, ensuring proper authorisation and documentation.
  • Manage the payroll calendar across multiple time zones, cut-off dates, and public holiday schedules for APJ countries.
  • Prepare and post payroll journal entries; perform GL-to-payroll reconciliation and variance analysis (delta reports) for all APJ entities.
  • Execute post-payroll reconciliations including bank file vs. GTN, headcount reconciliations, and social insurance / tax contribution validations.
  • Support month-end close activities: accruals, cost centre allocations, and intercompany recharges for APJ payroll costs.
  • Partner with the Finance team to ensure payroll GL mapping is accurate and consistent with the corporate chart of accounts.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of APJ statutory payroll requirements — tax, social security, pension, minimum wage, and mandatory leave — across Australia, Japan, Singapore, India, South Korea, and Southeast Asia.
  • Support year-end statutory filing and reporting obligations (e.g. Australia STP/Payment Summary, Japan withholding tax summary, Singapore IR8A, India Form 16, South Korea year-end settlement).
  • Ensure all payroll processes comply with GDPR, PDPA, and applicable local data privacy laws for APJ employee data.
  • Support external and internal payroll audits, providing documentation and reconciliation evidence as required.
  • Leverage AI-driven tools (e.g. ChatGPT/Claude for policy and statutory change summaries, AI-assisted anomaly detection, RPA for reconciliation workflows) to reduce manual effort and improve accuracy.
  • Identify and implement process improvements across the payroll cycle — from input validation through to GL posting — using data insights and automation.
  • Build and maintain Power BI / Excel dashboards for APJ payroll KPIs: headcount, cost variance, cycle time, error rates, and compliance metrics.
  • Contribute to global payroll transformation projects, including new country implementations and system upgrades.
  • Document and maintain SOPs for all APJ payroll processes, ensuring knowledge transfer and business continuity.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of payroll experience, with at least 3 years dedicated to APJ multi-country payroll (Australia, Japan, Singapore, and at least two other APJ markets).
  • Demonstrable knowledge of APJ statutory frameworks: Australian Fair Work Act and Superannuation, Japan Labour Standards Act and Shakai Hoken, Singapore CPF and MOM regulations, India PF/ESI/TDS, Vietnam SHUI and PIT, and South Korea NPS/NHI/EI.
  • Solid understanding of end-to-end payroll — calculations, input validation, payment, GL posting, reconciliation, and year-end filing.
  • Experience managing in-country vendors and MSPs for payroll delivery across multiple APJ jurisdictions.
  • Hands-on experience with a global payroll aggregator platform (ADP Celergo, CloudPay, Papaya Global, Deel, Ramco, or equivalent).
  • Proficiency in Workday or equivalent HRIS.
  • Strong payroll accounting knowledge: journal entries, GL reconciliation, payroll-to-ledger mapping, cost allocation, and variance analysis.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing payroll accruals and intercompany recharges.
  • Ability to identify, investigate, and resolve GL discrepancies independently.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel: VLOOKUP, pivot tables, Power Query, data modelling, and large dataset reconciliation.
  • Familiarity with AI tools in a payroll context: AI-assisted anomaly detection, prompt engineering for payroll use cases, AI-powered compliance monitoring.
  • Ability to build and interpret data dashboards (Power BI or equivalent) for payroll performance monitoring.
  • Detail-oriented, highly organised, and comfortable managing multiple payroll cycles simultaneously across different time zones.
  • Strong problem-solving and escalation judgement — knows when to resolve independently and when to escalate.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Collaborative team player who builds effective relationships with HR, Finance, Legal, and external vendors.
  • Proactive, change-driven, and enthusiastic about digital transformation and process automation.
  • Demonstrates a strong sense of ownership and accountability; learns from mistakes and consistently improves.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Workday payroll reports and data extracts is a strong advantage.
  • Experience with or strong interest in RPA, automation platforms (e.g. Power Automate), or scripting for payroll workflows.
  • Additional APJ language (Japanese, Mandarin, Bahasa, Korean) is a distinct advantage.
  • Experience with payroll implementation or new country go-live projects in APJ.
  • Background supporting EMEA payroll in addition to APJ (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, or Austria).
  • Experience with shadow payroll, expatriate / hypo-tax management, and international mobility payroll.
  • Knowledge of equity compensation (RSU, ESPP) payroll treatment in APJ jurisdictions.
  • Payroll certification (CPP, FPC, or equivalent regional qualification).
  • Experience with Works Council or collective bargaining agreement compliance (relevant for EMEA support scope).
