- Tech stack: TypeScript, React, Next.js
Role overview
Fueled is a leading digital strategy, design, and engineering agency with a 300+ person team that has built digital products for brands like Google, Apple, and The New York Times. As a Senior Full Stack Engineer, you will architect, build, and scale high-performance web applications from the database layer through to the browser, owning end-to-end solutions across the entire stack using TypeScript, React, and Next.js. Depending on project alignment, your work may lean toward Content Solutions (headless CMS, enterprise publishing, SEO-focused front-ends) or Digital Product (complex web applications, stateful systems, real-time functionality). Regardless of focus, engineers are expected to move fluidly across the stack to deliver premium, scalable user experiences in an intentionally remote culture.
Responsibilities
- Architect, build, and scale high-performance web applications from the database layer through to the browser.
- Own end-to-end solutions across the entire stack, designing API contracts and data models in TypeScript and building performant frontends in React and Next.js.
- Model relational and non-relational data, craft pixel-perfect accessible interfaces that perform under real-world conditions, and implement effective caching strategies at the edge.
- Optimize database queries, shape REST APIs, and fine-tune front-end bundles.
- Own the end-to-end delivery of key product features, from concept to deployment and beyond.
- Shape the technical approach, make critical architectural decisions, and ensure shipments are robust, scalable, and maintainable.
- Architect and build dynamic web experiences that hold up under the demands of real users and real editorial teams.
- Elevate the team's velocity and craft by introducing and socializing tools and practices that raise the technical bar.
- Proactively identify bottlenecks in build processes, state management, content modeling, or other areas and implement solutions to make the team more effective.
- Collaborate directly with designers and strategists to bridge the gap between creative vision and technical reality, challenging assumptions and exploring possibilities.
- Ship a tangible feature for a live client project from Day 1.
- Own and deliver a key feature end-to-end and improve a core performance metric by at least 10% within 6 months.
- Enhance team efficiency by creating a reusable component or process adopted by peers.
- Spearhead a significant project phase from concept to launch, on time and to a high standard, by 12 months.
Requirements
- Experience designing and building with TypeScript, React, and Next.js.
- Ability to model relational and non-relational data.
- Ability to design API contracts and data models.
- Ability to implement caching strategies at the edge.
- Systems and components thinking (rather than just pages).
- Proactive problem-solving skills and ability to thrive in ambiguity, specifically regarding headless architecture, microservices, or data flow.
- Comfortability crafting polished, dynamic front-ends and managing back-end logic, API routes, caching strategies, or CMS configuration.
- Natural collaboration and translation skills to explain technical constraints to designers and strategic goals to engineers.
Benefits
- Intentionally remote work environment with a culture that values flexibility, creativity, and cutting-edge technology.
- Opportunity to experience the team and culture via a contract position with the possibility of transitioning into full-time roles when fit and business needs align.
- Access to project invitations tailored to expertise and availability upon joining the Fueled contractor network.
