Role overview
This role is part of Canonical's team that helps global enterprises adopt private cloud infrastructure, Linux, cloud native operations, and open source applications. The position blends the responsibilities of a Linux and cloud solutions architect, cloud consultant, and software engineer: professionals in this role design tailored cloud solutions for customer workloads, deploy and test those solutions before handing them off to support or managed services teams, and develop open source infrastructure-as-code and Kubernetes operators using Python. The role is well-suited for developers who enjoy solving customer problems through architecture design, presentations, and training.
Responsibilities
- Design private and public cloud solutions (including OpenStack, Kubernetes, Ceph, Hadoop, and Spark, deployed either on-premises or via AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud) aligned to customer workload needs
- Deploy, test, and hand over completed cloud solutions to the support or managed services team at the end of each project
- Develop Kubernetes operators and Linux open source infrastructure-as-code using Python
- Work across the full Linux stack, spanning kernel, networking, storage, and applications
- Coach and develop colleagues by sharing relevant insights
- Foster a healthy, collaborative engineering culture aligned with company values
Requirements
- Hold a university degree in Computer Science or possess related software engineering expertise
- Have sound knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies, including Kubernetes, OpenStack, AWS, GCP, Azure, and Ceph
- Have practical knowledge of Linux and networking
- Have Intermediate to Advanced level Python programming skills
- Be a dynamic person who is willing to take on new projects and interact with people
- Have a demonstrated drive for continual learning
- Have excellent communication and presentation skills (English)
- Have strong organisational skills and reliably follow up on commitments
