Role overview
IDT is looking for a highly motivated and ambitious Database Engineer to join their database services team. The individual in this role will perform database analysis, design, and administration functions to deliver on strategic projects aligned with organizational goals. The role involves full-lifecycle database administration, including provisioning, tuning, backup and recovery, software patch deployment, schema management, and collaboration with developers. The position also requires 24/7 support and participation in the DBA on-call rotation.
Responsibilities
- Perform database analysis, design, and administration functions to deliver on strategic projects specific to organizational goals
- Full-lifecycle database administration, ranging from provisioning new MongoDB clusters
- Tuning replication
- Handling backup and recovery
- Deploying software patches
- Managing schema changes
- Collaborating with developers on collection, index, and SQL query design
- Providing 24/7 support and participating in the DBA on-call rotation
Requirements
- Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science or equivalent
- Minimum of 8-10 years of DBA experience
- Deep experience with MongoDB / MySQL / PostgreSQL databases
- Experience with databases hosted on Linux
- Database architecture and high availability solutions
- Amazon RDS platform
- Troubleshooting application issues and database object design
- Self-motivated, able to work closely with others in a true team environment
- Able to define, plan, and implement long-term goals and tasks in support of IDT's enterprise and technology organization charter
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, multitasking, troubleshooting skills, logical thinking, and attention to detail
Nice to have
- Prior experience with System / Network administration
- Oracle / CouchBase experience
- Deep expertise on the MongoDB platform (even without extensive Oracle / MySQL exposure)
