Role overview
Bolt.new by StackBlitz is the team behind WebContainers, a groundbreaking technology enabling Node.js to run directly in the browser, powering a fast online IDE used by over 1 million developers monthly. They’ve since built an AI-powered, next-gen app builder for creating, editing, and deploying full-stack web and mobile apps instantly—no installs or setup required. As a fully remote, globally distributed team, they focus on pushing the boundaries of software development. The Staff Product Designer role involves leading design for new zero-to-one product experiences, solving ambiguous problems, and driving both high-level strategy and meticulous execution in a fast-paced, high-impact environment.
Responsibilities
- Understand your customers: Are they asking for a faster horse, or a car? Work with cross-functional partners to identify and prioritize the user problems worth solving, not just the ones people have today, but the ones that will make their lives easier tomorrow. Think big!
- Own projects end to end: From partnering with product on problem definition, through divergent and convergent design thinking, to tangible designs (in Figma or with AI tools), design QA, and quality control.
- Set the vision for what future Bolt looks like: We’re in a fast-evolving industry, and we need to think fast and act boldly, not follow trends, but define how teams use AI to build great products. Use tangible designs to drive product directions. After all, designers have the superpower to turn abstract ideas into something people can see and react to.
- Raise the quality bar on all things design: Typography, spacing, motion, and visual consistency. Build and improve our design systems to result in higher-quality product launches across a growing product line.
Requirements
- A portfolio that demonstrates exceptional crafts
- A track record of shipping pixel-perfect work at scale in a fast-paced environment
- Comfort operating in ambiguous, zero-to-one environments while holding a high craft bar under deadline pressure
- Fluency in design systems, and the discipline to build for consistency across a growing platform
- Experience partnering closely with engineering to protect visual fidelity through implementation
- You’re already using AI to tackle personal and professional challenges
- Strong verbal and written English communication skills are required, as this role involves frequent collaboration with team members, stakeholders, and customers where English is the primary working language.
Nice to have
- Startup or small team experience. You are not just one of many!
- Experience in shaping AI tools
