Role overview

Sarvam is building the bedrock of Sovereign AI for India, developing a full‑stack sovereign AI platform that spans research, models, infrastructure and applications to make AI genuinely work for the country. The company partners with leading enterprises and public institutions, backed by Lightspeed, Peak XV, and Khosla Ventures. The role is a hands‑on, client‑facing software engineer who will work directly with enterprise clients to integrate Sarvam’s platform into their business workflows, balancing code development, platform configuration, debugging, and technical relationship management.

Responsibilities

Embedded with clients to understand operational processes, configure the platform for their needs, debug issues end‑to‑end, and ensure high‑quality outcomes across use cases.
Own the technical arc of customer engagements, from scoping the solution through to the system running in production.
Design end‑to‑end AI systems that meet reliability, latency, accuracy, and cost constraints, making architectural decisions that hold up at production scale.
Build the system yourself across whatever stack and product call for, ranging from voice and conversational systems to developer tooling, translation pipelines, and agentic workflows.
Deploy into the customer's environment, collaborating closely with their engineering team on data, infrastructure, and integration constraints.
Set up evaluations that meaningfully measure system performance and iterate based on data insights.
Work across engagements over time, picking up new domains, products, and customer contexts as priorities shift.
Bring field learnings back to Sarvam’s product and research teams to shape future development.
Split time between writing integration scripts, platform configuration, bug fixes, and working directly with client engineering and business teams.

Requirements

4+ years of experience (preferred).
Technical degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
High agency: self‑unblocking, proactive decision‑making without waiting for direction.
Strong AI fundamentals: deep understanding of LLMs, agents, context engineering, memory, RAG, tool use, structured outputs, and production failure modes.
Experience with agentic frameworks such as LangGraph, LlamaIndex, Google ADK, or equivalent, and both open‑source and closed‑source models.
Evals mindset: ability to set up evaluation pipelines, define meaningful metrics, and distinguish useful evaluation from noise.
Systems thinker: ability to reason about architecture, reliability, scale, trade‑offs, and failure modes across services, databases, queues, and messaging systems (Kafka, SQS, or equivalent).
Strong Python skills and comfort across backend development, data pipelines, and cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or equivalent).
Ability to quickly learn new stacks (hours, not weeks).
Track record of shipping code: publicly visible projects, production deployments, open‑source contributions, or personal projects.
Customer instinct: ability to communicate clearly with technical and non‑technical stakeholders and translate customer needs into clean technical work.

Nice to have

Built and deployed AI agents into production that performed real work for real users.
Experience deploying AI systems in regulated environments (BFSI, public sector) or with on‑premise / VPC deployments.
History of side projects, open‑source contributions, or shipped products.
Previously worked in a customer‑facing or product‑embedded engineering role.
Used Sarvam’s models or APIs in personal projects.
