As a Senior EMS Application Software Development Engineer in Bangalore, you will contribute to Hitachi Energy’s mission as a global leader in the power sector, building on the combined heritage of Hitachi and ABB Power Grids.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop software solutions for EMS/GMS applications, contributing to the enhancement of system functionality, performance, and integration capabilities.
- Collaborate with customers' experts to configure applications to meet customer requirements.
- Work closely with customers to develop efficient and robust workflow integrations between SCADA/EMS/GMS systems and other IT/OT systems, leveraging state-of-the-art interface and integration technologies.
- Create and execute test plans and procedures with customers to ensure the system meets contractual requirements.
- Provide training to customers on operating EMS/GMS functions within the system.
- Coordinate and efficiently resolve technical problems reported by customers in collaboration with the technical team.
- Provide expert support to the proposals and tendering team, enabling Hitachi Energy to submit high quality bids.

Requirements
- Master's or PhD in Power System Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related engineering stream.
- 4–10 years of experience in software development, debugging, and performance tuning.
- Demonstrated experience working in Agile development environments (e.g., Scrum, Kanban), including backlog management, sprint planning, and iterative delivery.
- Proficiency/experience with programming languages: C#, C/C++, MATLAB, Java, Python, FORTRAN.
- Experience with Linux and Windows development environments.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to interact effectively with team members, product management, and customers.
- Good oral and written communication skills; ability to present information to and gather information from peers, product management, project team, sales, customers, management, and other stakeholders.
- Strong knowledge and experience working with power system modeling and simulation, analysis and operation, optimization, and numerical analysis methodology.
Nice to have
- Solid theoretical background in Numerical Analysis Methods, Optimization Techniques, and Power System Modeling and Operation.
- Experience in model prototyping using optimization toolkits or machine learning/AI packages/tools.
- Hands‑on experience with Energy Management System (EMS) applications such as Generation Control, Network Analysis, Operator Training Simulator.
- Familiarity with analytical tools such as Load Flow, Contingency Analysis, State Estimation, AGC, Economic Dispatch, and Power Systems Simulators.
