Role overview
Canonical, a leader in open-source software and publisher of Ubuntu, seeks a UX Designer for Developer Experience to transform complex open-source tools into intuitive enterprise solutions. This remote role (EMEA-based) involves collaborating with engineers and product teams to design software-building tools, evolve design systems, and enhance developer workflows globally. The position reports to the Developer Experience design manager and aligns with Canonical's distributed, innovation-focused culture.
Responsibilities
- Design tools enabling users to build, package, and maintain open-source software
- Collaborate with product managers and engineers to shape developer experience strategy
- Apply UX heuristics to support complex product design processes
- Evolve and promote design systems for consistency and efficiency
- Understand interconnected technical and business constraints in design decisions
- Support cross-team design initiatives through working group participation
Requirements
- Exceptional academic record (high school and university)
- Bachelor’s degree in UX, Design, STEM, or equivalent professional experience
- Proven knowledge of user experience, technology, and design principles
- Commitment to continuous learning and improvement
- Result-oriented mindset with drive to complete projects
- Confidence in user research methodologies
- Engagement with current design research and innovation
- Ability to travel internationally twice yearly for 1-2 week company events
- Excellent communication skills for collaboration with engineers, designers, and executives
