Role overview

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is very widely used in breakthrough enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation and IoT. We are hiring a UX Designer for Developer Experience to work with exceptional engineering teams to improve how software is built and distributed globally. The role involves designing developer tools, collaborating with product managers and engineers, supporting complex products with design and UX heuristics, evolving design systems, and contributing to horizontal design efforts. This role is based remotely in the EMEA region and reports to the Developer Experience design manager.

Responsibilities

Designing and building tools that enable everyone to build, package and maintain their own software, with a focus on Open Source
Collaborating with product managers and engineers to shape the future of developer experience
Supporting deeply complex products with the process of design and UX heuristics
Working to evolve and evangelise design systems that drive consistency and efficiency
Understanding the broader scope of your work and its numerous interconnected constraints
Supporting one of our working groups to enable Canonical design's horizontal efforts
Representing Canonical at cross-functional company meetings and presenting design positions with clarity and precision

Requirements

Bachelor's or equivalent in User Experience, Design, or STEM or a compelling narrative about your alternative chosen path
Knowledge and passion for user experience, technology and design
Commitment to continuous learning and improvement - curious, flexible, scientific
Result-oriented with a drive to finish work and celebrate success
Confidence in user research practices
Engagement with the latest design research and innovation
Ability to travel internationally twice a year, for company events up to two weeks long
Excellent communication skills and ability to work with a complex mix of engineers, designers and executives
Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university
