Key highlights

  • Required experience: 4+ years in integration engineering, data engineering, solutions engineering, or implementation engineering.
  • Required technical skills: strong SQL and working proficiency in Python (or comparable scripting language).
  • Required: US Eastern Time (EST/EDT) business hours coverage, typically late afternoon to late evening IST schedule.
  • Customer-facing role — explicitly not a back-office position.
  • Remote-first company headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area, founded in 2021 by ex-Googlers.
  • Nice to have: working knowledge of finance and accounting concepts (GL, AR/AP, deferred revenue, cohorting, multi-entity consolidation).

Role overview

Drivetrain is hiring a remote, customer-facing Integration Engineer to own customer integrations end-to-end for its financial planning and decision-making platform. The role involves leading onboarding calls, building and extending connectors to a wide range of ERP, CRM, HRIS, data warehouse, and other systems, diagnosing and resolving data issues, writing documentation, and serving as the technical voice customers hear during onboarding. It is explicitly not a back-office role, and the successful candidate will spend a meaningful share of their week on calls walking finance and IT teams through how Drivetrain connects to systems such as NetSuite, Salesforce, Workday, Snowflake, or homegrown data warehouses.

Responsibilities

  • Own customer integrations end-to-end: Lead onboarding calls, scope the integration landscape (which systems, which entities, how often), configure connectors, validate the data, and hand off cleanly to the customer's CSM and the implementation team.
  • Build and extend connectors: Work with Drivetrain's integrations platform to set up native connectors (NetSuite, Salesforce, HubSpot, QuickBooks, Xero, SAP ECC / S/4HANA, Workday, Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Google Sheets, Excel, and many more) and contribute to building new ones when a customer needs a system not yet supported.
  • Diagnose and resolve data issues: Collaborate with the Solution Consultant on the project to trace mismatches between source systems and Drivetrain, understand the customer's chart of accounts and entity structures, and explain in plain language what's happening and how it will be fixed.
  • Write and improve documentation, including customer-facing setup guides, internal runbooks, and connector reference docs; if a question comes up twice, it should be documented by the third time.
  • Be the customer's technical advocate inside Drivetrain: translate recurring customer pain into product and connector roadmap input, and work closely with the product, engineering, and customer success teams.
  • Stay on top of source-system changes (APIs deprecate, SAP licensing evolves, NetSuite SuiteAnalytics gets revamped), staying informed and proactively flagging impact to customers.
  • Customers will hear from this person directly, and a meaningful share of the week will be spent on calls walking finance and IT teams through how Drivetrain connects to their NetSuite, Salesforce, Workday, Snowflake, or homegrown data warehouse.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in an integration engineering, data engineering, solutions engineering, or implementation engineering role; ideally for a SaaS product that touches financial or operational data.
  • Strong SQL skills: able to write a multi-CTE query without reaching for a tutorial and to explain a query plan when something is slow.
  • Working proficiency in Python (or a comparable scripting language) for building connectors, transforming data, and writing one-off utilities.
  • Hands-on experience with REST APIs, OAuth 2.0, webhooks, and common authentication patterns (API keys, service accounts, token rotation).
  • Familiarity with at least 2–3 of the source systems the team works with — what their data model looks like, how their API behaves, what's painful about extracting data from them.
  • Comfort with data modeling concepts including primary keys, joins, slowly changing dimensions, deduplication, time zones, currency conversion, and chart-of-accounts hierarchies.
  • Debugging skills across the stack: reading logs, isolating whether a problem is in the source API, the connector, the transformation layer, or the destination model.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken, with neutral or near-neutral accent comprehensibility on live customer calls; will be the technical voice customers associate with Drivetrain throughout onboarding.
  • Ability to provide coverage during US Eastern Time (EST/EDT) business hours; comfortable with a shifted schedule (typically late afternoon to late evening IST) and able to sustain it as the default working pattern so customer calls, escalations, and live debugging sessions can happen without next-day delays.
  • Clear, calm, articulate communication, both written (Slack, email, tickets, docs) and verbal (customer calls, sometimes with both a finance controller and a head of IT on the line).
  • Ability to explain a technical problem to a non-technical stakeholder without dumbing it down or making them feel small; customers should leave a call feeling more confident, not more confused.
  • Active listening: catching off-hand remarks from customers that turn out to be the actual issue behind an integration problem.
  • Ownership and follow-through: when committing to deliver an answer by a certain date, following through on that date even if the answer is that more time is needed.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and pushback: able to disagree respectfully when customers ask for things that aren't possible or describe a problem incorrectly, and steer the conversation toward what will work.

Nice to have

  • Exposure to SOAP and GraphQL.
  • Prior experience at a finance, analytics, or data integration company (e.g., Fivetran, Workato, Airbyte, Mulesoft, Stitch, dbt Labs).
  • Working knowledge of finance and accounting concepts: GL, AR/AP, deferred revenue, cohorting, multi-entity consolidation.

Benefits

  • Remote-friendly culture that brings together the best and brightest no matter where they are, with a great degree of autonomy and trust in its people.
  • Open and transparent environment where creators have access to all the information they need to do their best work.
  • Idea-friendly environment that encourages exploring new ideas, taking risks, making mistakes, and learning; anyone in the company can come up with great ideas and become a catalyst for positive change, and the best ideas win.
  • Customer-centric culture following a product-led growth strategy, continuously learning from customers and collaborating to build the software.
