Role overview
Lead a team of engineers focused on Linux and VMware initiator stack behavior, Fibre Channel and NIC drivers for Pure Storage’s Flasharray. The role involves developing, debugging, and optimizing storage and networking protocols while maintaining kernels, drivers, and documentation for internal and customer use.
Responsibilities
- Lead a group of engineers responsible for Linux and VMware initiator stack behavior and Fibre Channel & NIC drivers on Pure Storage array
- Develop and fix Linux initiator stack for Flasharray, focusing on NVMe (ROCE, FC, TCP/IP), FC-SCSI (FCP), and iSCSI interfaces
- Debug issues with VMware as an initiator and create compatibility documentation
- Maintain the Fibre Channel SCSI (FCP) target driver, including updates, bug fixes, and hardware support
- Maintain NIC drivers on Pure’s storage systems and related code, utilities, and RAS enhancements
- Debug failures found internally and in the field for both storage and networking drivers
- Maintain Linux kernels for internal testing and contribute bug fixes/enhancements to Linux upstream
- Document supported configurations for customers and create compatibility documents for Purity
- Evaluate and optimize Linux initiator behavior for performance and correctness on Pure Storage Flasharray
- Resolve difficult Fibre Channel bugs, including projects around multipathing and link health
- Deal with middleware C++ modules
Requirements
- Strong experience writing device drivers and/or kernel development for Linux/Unix
- Minimum 5 years of development experience (typically 15+ years)
- Experience designing and implementing significant components in storage protocol stacks and storage systems
- Experience leading other engineers technically, mentoring junior engineers, and delivering projects on time with high quality
- Experience with performance analysis and optimization for storage systems or protocols
- Experience with VMware initiator stack
- Experience writing Linux storage device drivers, including Fibre Channel, NVMe, ROCE, block, and multipath modules
- Experience debugging difficult storage attachment issues
- Experience with C, C++, and Python development
- Experience developing test automation
- Experience analyzing and optimizing storage performance
- Demonstrated experience debugging difficult protocol/kernel/system issues
- Experience with network protocols, including TCP/IP
Nice to have
- Experience with storage protocols: SCSI (FC-SCSI or iSCSI/FCP) and/or NVMe fabrics (NVMe/ROCE, NVMe/TCP, NVMe/FC)
- Experience upstreaming Linux code
- Experience with middleware C++ modules
- Experience with network protocols beyond basic TCP/IP
