Role overview
Hitachi Energy India Development Centre (IDC) is a research and development facility with around 500 engineers, specialists and experts focused on digital solutions, new products and technology across product integration, testing, cybersecurity and certification. The role leads R&D activities for electrical aspects of product design, driving performance improvements, cost reductions, manufacturability and new market developments across the G&PQSS range.
Responsibilities
- Conduct and manage product development, type tests and design improvements related to electrical aspects of product design across the G&PQSS range.
- Lead R&D activities and collaborate with the team to design and develop electrical systems and products.
- Integrate electrical components and systems and conduct testing to ensure functionality and performance.
- Work closely with product line cross‑functional teams located across geographical regions, including SCM, manufacturing/production, service, engineering, sales, project management and product management.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including design documentation, test procedures and product manuals.
- Actively engage with global market and industry representatives to note market trends and identify future development project opportunities.
- Ensure alignment with assigned project development targets (time, cost, quality) and coordinate with the project team involved in specific R&D activities.
- Generate new ideas for improvement and develop innovative solutions to enhance existing products, services or processes.
- Think creatively to develop novel solutions to complex problems and take initiative to identify opportunities for innovation.
- Ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures and guidelines.

Requirements
- Master’s degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Power System or Power Electronics from a reputed institution.
- Hands‑on experience in R&D new product/prototype development and type testing.
- Experience preparing electrical design schematics, product manuals, hardware and software specifications, and performing power system calculations.
- Ability to select and finalize electrical‑electronics components, cables, converters, auxiliary equipment for LV or MV product integration.
- Familiarity with industrial communication‑protocol‑enabled products and ability to select, assemble and test hardware and software.
- Knowledge of communication protocols such as Modbus TCP/IP, CAN, Profibus, Ethernet/IP, PROFINET.
- Knowledge of relevant standards such as IEC, UL, SAE, IEEE, and of product safety and cyber security.
- Detailed work experience with multi‑winding power transformers, power converters, FACTS equipment, harmonic filters, DC or AC charging systems for battery charging in MW range, and energy storage systems (ESS).
- Ability to work with large global teams, stress‑tolerance and strategic thinking.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Nice to have
- Work experience in E‑mobility product AC/DC charging side, STATCOM/LV‑MV electrical projects in MW range, or renewable energy products in MW range such as BESS, wind or solar systems.
- Hands‑on experience with DS‑E3 software.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, MATLAB and ETAP.
