About the Role We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Backend Engineer to design, develop, and scale robust backend systems and APIs. You will be responsible for building high-performance backend services, data pipelines, and API integrations, ensuring they are secure, scalable, and maintainable. Key Responsibilities Design, build, and maintain backend services and REST APIs using Python (3.7+) and FastAPI. Implement asynchronous processing, background tasks, and dependency injection within FastAPI. Integrate OpenAPI/Swagger documentation for all backend endpoints. Design and integrate RESTful APIs with frontend systems and third-party services, handling versioning, error responses, and edge cases. Build and optimize data models in relational databases like PostgreSQL and MySQL, and work with NoSQL systems like MongoDB. Design and maintain ETL pipelines for bulk data ingestion, transformation, validation, and deduplication to ensure master data integrity. Work on real-time data streaming pipelines using Apache Kafka or similar tools. Deploy, monitor, and scale services on cloud platforms like Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Microsoft Azure. Containerize services using Docker and orchestrate deployments using Kubernetes. Set up CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or similar tools. Collaborate with frontend, DevOps, and data engineering teams to deliver end-to-end solutions. Required Skills & Qualifications Strong expertise in Python (3.7+) with experience in type annotations, asynchronous programming, and scripting. Proven experience building scalable backend services using FastAPI. Strong understanding of RESTful API design principles and best practices. Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MongoDB including schema design and query optimization. Experience designing and managing ETL pipelines and real-time data streaming systems. Familiarity with cloud services (Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure) and infrastructure as code. Proficiency with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or similar). Strong debugging, performance optimization, and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and collaboration abilities. Nice-to-Have Knowledge of microservices architecture. Familiarity with message queues (e.g., RabbitMQ, Amazon SQS). Experience with security best practices (OAuth2, JWT, rate limiting). Originally posted on Himalayas
